What does the Lyngblomsten Auxiliary do?
Organized in 1963, the Lyngblomsten Auxiliary is a group of volunteers who provide support for Lyngblomsten's residential programs and outreach services, helping facilitate the well-being and comfort of all those Lyngblomsten serves.
Here's a small sample of Major Projects Accomplished by the Auxiliary:
- Helped finance the purchase of new buses for the 5-5-1 Club Community Center and for the Care Center and apartments.
- Contributed $200,000 to the "Focused on the Future" Fund Drive. To date, this is the largest undertaking by the Auxiliary, and through the dedicated efforts of members, the Auxiliary achieved its goal in under three years! $100,000 went toward the remodeling of the Care Center and $100,000 went toward the Outreach Endowment.
- Funded the remodeling of the Community Center and the addition of a kitchen and new furnishings.
- Established a Parish Nurse Ministry fund.
- Provided furnishings for the main lounge and library in The Heritage, flatware for the Lyngblomsten Apartments, a nurse call system for the Care Center, etc.
- Purchased adaptive equipment and furniture for Care Center residents--most recently helping with furnishings for the patient rooms in the Lokensgard Transitional Care Unit.
This support is accomplished through:
- Membership fees
- Memorials
- Spring and fall rummage sales
- Annual Scandinavian Cookie Fair
- Special projects such as gift wrapping at local bookstores
Twice each year the Auxiliary organizes a rummage sale. Members devote hundreds of hours sorting donations, preparing the sales area, and assisting shoppers.
A long-standing tradition is the Annual Scandinavian Cookie Fair held each December. Auxiliary members and friends gather to bake dozens and dozens and dozens of rosettes, sandbakkels, and krumkake. Yum!
When does the Auxiliary meet?
Meetings are generally held at Lyngblomsten at 1:30 PM on the second TUESDAY of these months: September, November, January, March, and May. However, they are currently reviewing the meeting schedule.
Who can join the Auxiliary?
Anyone interested in Christian service can become a member. Men and women of all ages are welcome. Join by yourself, with a family member, or with a friend or two! Membership dues are just $5 per year.
Why should I become a member?
God calls us to love one another. Helping provide for the care and comfort of the seniors in our community is a beautiful way to model Christ's love and to honor the elderly. As people are living longer, the population of older persons continues to grow, and more and more services are needed by the elderly. The work of the Auxiliary helps provide the special "extras" for the elderly Lyngblomsten serves.
Participating in the Lyngblomsten Auxiliary is a wonderful way to give of your time and talents and make special friends along the way!
"A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; even as I have loved you."
John 13:34
How can I make a difference?
You can make a difference just by becoming a member and paying your annual dues. Or you might decide to help with one or more of the Auxiliary's fundraisers. There are also opportunities to serve in leadership positions. As you know, many hands make light work!
