The Service House model is based on the Swedish System of care. It takes many components from the neighborhood model such as
- person-centered care
- cozy, home-like environment
- skilled and compassionate caregivers
and takes individualized care a step farther.
- Each living unit has its own kitchenette for families /staff to assist in preparing morning and evening meals.
- The Service Houses are smaller communities consisting of 9 to 15 elders.
- Service House Care Assistants are universal workers who assist with personal cares, meals, cleaning, laundry, and activities.
- Service House elders are encouraged to bring their own furniture.
Admission Criteria for Service Houses
- Family participation encouraged
- ADL involvement:
- Can feed self or needs minimal help
- Can assist with or direct meal preparation
- Participates in and appropriately communicates choices of daily life
- Intent of stay is permanent placement
- Able to structure his/her own daily life with extensive assistance from friends or family if unable to do so independently
Necessary Items
If you choose to move into a Service House, there will be specific items that you will need to bring for your day-to-day living. For example, you will need some basic kitchen items, dish soap, laundry detergent, etc. Please talk with the Service House Coordinator for a list of suggested items.
Residents and families are responsible for purchasing groceries for breakfast and evening meals* (other delivery options available). Lunch is served in the Service House dining room with food prepared by the Care Center’s Food Service Department. Please talk with the Service House Coordinator for more information.

- Service House residents are encouraged to bring their own favorite chair and other furniture.
- In addition to the individual kitchenettes in each room, each Service House has a large country kitchen and adjoining dining room used for lunch, parties, and other special gatherings.

Cost & Payment
The cost of living in a Service House is the same as any other area in the Care Center. Daily rates are based on the level of care required and type of room requested (semi-private vs. private).

Medical Assistance, Private Insurance, HMOs, Medicare, Private Funds
